PLUMBING COURSE (INTRODUCTORY
Part-time 1 day per week for 10 weeks (60 hours)

Course Objective

The course is intended to provide participants with an introduction to plumbing.
The emphasis will be on practical hands on experience and participants should acquire sufficient practical skills and knowledge to allow them to be competent in domestic
plumbing activities.

The course is not examinable, but serves as the basis upon which individuals may
progress to seeking certification. The course is flexible to suit client needs.

No previous plumbing experience is necessary.

Course Content

  • Materials – pipe tools, safety, cutting, copper tube, jointing, heating techniques,
    copper tube bending
  • Cold & hot water supplies – installation of cisterns, bases, lids, hot water systems, cylinders, boilers, radiators, pumps
  • Water taps and valves – fixing general problems such as washers, faults, dripping
  • Oil fired boilers – parts, operation, oil tanks, gauges, filters, flues, time controls, servicing
  • Sanitary appliances – fitting and fixing all sanitary appliances and pipework

Learning Outcomes

After attending this course participants will:

  • Have an understanding of the materials and equipment required to undertake domestic plumbing jobs
  • Be able to undertake plumbing jobs
  • Be able to practice new skills to develop expertise
