PRRT TO ASSIST ROYAL IRISH

Visitors to our Maryfield site will soon see new building work in progress beside the car park.  As a result of PRRT being invited to handle the medical aftercare needs of the UDR and Royal Irish Regiment Home Service, a major expansion in staff and facilities is required.

This new project will have no service implications for our existing police clients as additional services will be offered alongside those already existing for retired and retiring officers.  The MoD is fully resourcing the Trust to establish and deliver a service to its former membership at a dedicated facility on the Maryfield Complex.

Edward Gorringe, PRRT Chief Executive says, “It is an indication of how beneficial our clinical outcomes have been for our police clients. The MoD wanted, quite rightly, the same excellent standard of after care for their former UDR and RIR soldiers. Essentially, we will be offering physiotherapy and psychological therapies to eligible soldiers and their families.”

The project will be directly funded by the MoD and, although physical building work is beginning almost immediately, military clients will not routinely be seen until January when the new administrative and professional staff will be in place.

PRRT will have overarching contractual responsibility for the delivery of medical services which is only one of three elements of support being offered by the Aftercare Service. Peter Baillie, Director of Aftercare Services, and his team will continue to be based in Palace Barracks.  A formal announcement will be made by the MoD at the beginning of November about the launch of Aftercare Services.
