Part-Time (2 hrs per week September - June)

Course Objectives

- To develop students written work over a range of style for different purposes and audiences.
- To encourage students to read and understand different types of texts and understand how writers use words for various purposes.
- To help students become more confident, informed speakers and listeners.

Course Content

- 4 Pieces of written coursework covering a range of different types of writing all discussed in class.
- Discussions on various relevant topics above with group development exercise and opportunities to become better listeners.
- Reading and writing about different texts, being able to distinguish between fact and opinion, follow an argument, inform, persuade and describe.
- Understand the devices writers use to influence us.

Learning Outcomes

- For students to improve their reading, writing, talking and listening.
- Learn to work as individuals and as members of a group.
- To provide a lively, stimulating, friendly atmosphere in which to learn, and pass GCSE English.
