Skills
Assessment
When you are considering or planning another
career it is vital to spend some time exploring who you are
and the skills you have developed during your life so far. This
will involve reflecting on your achievements both inside and
outside the workplace. This process involves recognising and
assessing the general value of your experience in terms of other
careers and job roles that are of interest to you. We at PRRT
realise that for some this can seem a daunting task.
The following exercises will help you to
identify some of the skills you have developed. We have listed
skills in the following categories.
• People skills
• Communication skills
• Management skills
• Information skills
• Creative skills
• Practical skills
• Specialist skills
Take some time to read these lists and identify
those, which describe you. It is useful to consider the areas
in which you have developed a range of transferable skills.
Transferable skills describe skills, which can be applied in
other areas. Consider experience from all areas of your working
and personal life. Be honest! Do not underestimate or undervalue.
Remember this is your working document and will prove very useful
in assisting the decision making process. |
