The six most sought
after core skills/competencies identified by employers
Some of you may have found this a difficult
exercise. Sometimes when we are experienced in a role or activity
it is difficult to recognize the skills we have developed. Like
driving we carry out the procedures without any thought to the
skills involved. A skill can be described as an ability to do
something or anything where you can say
“ I can…….. “ or “ I am able to
……..”
The following list contains the 6 most sought
after core skills/competencies identified by employers. Read
the list carefully to see how many you can clearly say you have
developed.
1. Communicating effectively
2. Working well in a team
3. Problem solving
4. Using Initiative
5. Being well organised
6. Being Adaptable
PRRT have developed the following
model, which clearly highlights the skills of a police Officer.
The aim of the model is to help you identify some of your transferable
skills and the evidence you will have to offer to prospective
employers.
