Trades & Skills Training - Bricklaying Course
(Introductory)
Part-time - 1 day per week for 15 weeks (90 hours)
Course Objective
The course is intended to provide participants with
a practical introduction to bricklaying. The acquisition of skills and
knowledge will allow participants to be competent to erect typical,
small outbuildings in block or smooth concrete brick.
The course is not examinable, but serves as the basis upon which individuals
may progress to seeking certification. The course is flexible to suit
client needs.
Course Content
- Materials and tools - trowel practice and mixing
- Brickwork - buttering, laying pyramids, stop-ends and corners
- Blockwork exercises - wall building, building to a line
- Cutting bricks and blocks, pointing and jointing, bedding cills, heads,
door frames and windows, wall ties and installation
- Openings, recessed openings, vertical and horizontal DPC, single skin
and cavity walls
Learning Outcomes
After attending the course participants will:
- Be able to undertake bricklaying jobs
- Have an understanding of the materials and equipment required
- Be able to practice new skills to develop expertise
