Health and Wellbeing

On the 10th April this year, PRRT’s Head of Psychological Therapies and Physiotherapy Lead were asked to take part in the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland’s (HSENI) workplace health conference and exhibition, hosted at La Mon Hotel and Country Club, Belfast.
This conference brought together esteemed speakers from across the UK to share their occupational health and wellbeing knowledge and insights. PRRT presented the results of the Northern Ireland Prison Service Health and Wellbeing Pilot Programme that was developed and implemented by PRRT’s multidisciplinary team. The programme included psychological resilience, goal setting, communication, nutrition, tai chi, sleep hygiene and mindfulness.
The pilot proved hugely successful with multilevel engagement between the two organisations. Participants gained increased awareness, learning and understanding of how to manage their own well-being and the support available to them. As a result, the pilot was extended with a further 3 courses being delivered in 2024/2025 to date and the aim to reach over 500 officers over the next few years.
